Without a Guide
Unless you have driven in Asia before , I strongly recommend you have Insurance. There is a simple rule in bali….if it’s bigger than you…give way to it , dont be surprised to have a truck or mini bus edge out in front of you , from a side street , without warning. Finding your way around on Bali is fairly simple. ( Except in Denpasar ) Dont be impatient , and the usual custom is to HONK the horn when overtaking. Dont speed….remember you are on holidays. Carry a current International drivers Licence as the police DO check tourists. There are plenty of places to hire a car , make sure the car is insured and visit the car rental office….NOT just from someone off the street. Although , I haven’t hired a car , I have listed a car rental office that has email , so send one of them a line if you need further information.

With a Guide
This is a good way to tour , with a hired car and driver. You can get a car , van or minibus with a driver for a little more than you pay JUST to hire the thing !! Make sure the driver has a Tourist Licence and that the vehicle is insured. Yellow number plates also denotes a Tourist vehicle. Wayan Merta comes highly recommended.

Kintamani Tours
If you want to get out for the whole day this is the best way to do it…Take in a day trip to Kintomani . You can organise a driver who will stop along the way allowing you to take in the many flavours and cultures of Bali. Stops should include a Batic Factory , Celuk for Silver and Gold jewelry and Ubud for wood carving and the Monkey Forest ( Although a full day can be spent at Ubud alone.) The driver will more than likely take you to shops where he gets a commision if you buy anything. If you dont want this to happen tell him before you leave that you want to pick the shops. Once at the peak you will have to pay an entrance fee of Rp 1,000 per Adult but well worth it. There are two restaurants at the peak. One is relatively inexpensive ( 25,000Rp per person) for a smorgasboard and the other , well it looked very expensive so I didnt try it… It is generally the custom that you purchase lunch for the driver and water him as well , ready for the trip home. The return journey will meander through the rice terraces Bali is famous for and if you have the right driver , he may stop at his home village on the way, allowing you to see how the true Balinese people live.
Round Trip : 150,000Rp – 200,000Rp + Lunch

We all had a great time at this park, it’s incredibly clean , the birds that you get to hold are changed regularly, so by the time you have a wonder around one area and arrive back in the central show area , there are a new set of birds to hold and take pictures with. Although there are a few interactive places around the park that you can do this, there is one main area in the middle of the park that has a host of birds you can hold.
